Barbara Cohen, Psy.D

I received a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology in 1986 from Temple University in Philadelphia, and have worked as a psychotherapist in both private and public settings since that time. Upon completion of my Masters Degree, I attended a post-graduate training program at the Philadelphia School of Psychoanalysis, where I studied psychoanalytic psychotherapy and received clinical supervision for 3 years.

In 1991, I began my doctoral studies at The California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego, California. In 1993, I was awarded a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology. After completing my dissertation (a study of effective methods of treating women with depression) I earned a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.)

From August 1995 to August 1996, I worked at the University of Houston Counseling and Testing Services, an American Psychological Association Accredited internship. I became a licensed psychologist in Arizona in 1997.

I believe that learning is a life long endeavor. I am currently attending classes in the study of Self Psychology, an approach to treatment that focuses on the strengthening of the self via an empathic relationship with the therapist.

I am a member of the Arizona Psychoanalytic Society. My private practice is devoted to working with both individuals and couples.
